Sun God (Horus) and Christianity

Some skeptics insist that the Christianity borrowed ideas or concepts, e.g., keeping the Lord’s day (Sunday, meaning the day of the sun), keeping the Christmas day on December 25, the virgin birth, the twelve disciples, and the resurrection from the gentiles who serve the sun god, particularly Horus of Egypt.

Further, they persevere with it that the record about the Deluge and the story of Moses are also found from the other records that are not of/before the Scripture. So they maintain that the Scripture is the collection and combination of borrowed stories and it was also plagiarized from the existing stories, myths, etc.

Regarding their criticism, Christians have no suitable answers to refute them, only denying it. However, we do not need to deny such things because they are true facts. On the contrary, it proves that Jesus is the very gospel who will save all mankind. How come?

1. The sun is the type of God

First, this physical world in which people live is the expression of God and the shadow of the spiritual world. The sun is the example and shadow of God in the physical world. It gives the humankind light and life and drives darkness away. The works God does are revealed by the sun.

Some scholars say that the concept about the resurrection is borrowed from the phenomenon that the sun looks like disappearing for three days starting from the winter solstice and appearing again on December 25 when it is observed in the northern hemisphere. If so, it is not borrowing but it matches the thing God has revealed in the all things of the universe, which reinforces truthfulness of Jesus’ resurrection.

Paul the apostle says:

[Romans 1:20] For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

The God in the Scripture is not only for the Christians but also for every mankind and all things. He naturally reveals His Godhead to every creature through this material world including the sun. Many religions have something in common with each other because people see His shadow through the natural world including the sun.

[Acts 14:16-17] 16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways. 17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

He shows Himself to people through all things in the universe so it is natural that they find similarities from the revelations they see.

2. The shadow and the substance

God reveals Himself first through the shadow or the type and then through the substance.

In the same manner, before the substance comes, the Scripture describes the substance to come through various sorts of shadows. The sacrifices, characters (e.g., Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, Elijah, Elisha, etc.), and events (e.g., the event in which the dead son of the widow living in Zarephath rose again, which typifies resurrection, and the Noah’s Flood which signifies judgment and resurrection) are the antitypes/shadows of Jesus Christ who is to come.

Further, such types and shadows can be found anywhere outside the Scripture. It is most reasonable because all things in the universe reveal the Godhead of God to all mankind: they are the types and the shadows of Jesus Christ. However, they who have poor knowledge about the relationship between the shadow and the substance only see a superficial analogy and conclude that the substance has plagiarized the shadow that had existed before.

All the religions before Jesus comes in addition to the Old Testament of the Bible work as the types and the shadows for showing Jesus to come. The things that come before Jesus does function to let people vaguely know of God, but Jesus is the substance to save men, who has come as a man in the flesh to perfectly reveal God to them.

[Acts 17:30-31] 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Nobody can have perfect idea of God through the types. The substance will only let us have the perfect revelation of God.

Resultantly speaking, if religions have an affinity regarding the sun and the god, it is natural because the man sees the God (substance) who is not seen through the sun (shadow) that is seen.

There can be some documents that are similar to the records of the Scripture and they can be similar with each other because God is revealed to all things in the universe. They are the types of Jesus Christ, God who is to come.

The type and the substance cannot but have an affinity because they indicate the same thing. It does not signify that the substance has plagiarized the type/shadow.

Do not be puzzled by the writings and videos produced by those who do not know the things they should know.

Above all, meet Jesus Christ who lives in your lives now, and you will find all of them by yourselves.
