Think about the following two crucial points in believing Jesus:
Firstly, the Bible says, “Sell that what you have, and give to the poor,”
“You shall not eat the flesh of swine,” and “Be not drunk with wine.”
Being Christian, you may interpret these instructions literally.
But what if the true meaning of these words is different from
what you interpret and understand?
That is, ‘that what you have’ does not refer to ‘property,’
the ‘flesh of swine’ is not ‘pork,’ and ‘wine’ is not ‘alcohol.’
The Bible testifies about Jesus (Jn 5:39), but if your interpretation
and understanding are incorrect, then your understanding of
Jesus will be incorrect and you won’t know Him.
Secondly, returning to John 5:39-40: “You diligently study
the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess
eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,
yet you refuse to come to me to have life.”
The Jews were diligently studying the Scriptures, expecting to receive eternal life.
However, Jesus, the giver of eternal life, did not come from the Scriptures
that they were studying. The real Jesus was standing right in front of them.
Likewise, you diligently study the Scriptures to possess eternal life,
that is, salvation. But have you met the Savior (the giver of eternal life),
‘a man’ who is standing in front of you?
It is for sure that you will not be saved by the testimony about the Savior,
but by the Savior himself.
The Scripture is a sign or testimony of ‘a man,’ the real Jesus Christ,
who is standing in front of you now.
Have you met ‘this man,’ the real Jesus?
